Birth Injury From Deadly Medicine

- Pitocin: Used to induce labor, Pitocin can cause contractions to become too strong or too close together. - Cytotec: This drug has been used to induce labor, despite the fact that it was never tested by the manufacturer or approved by the FDA for this use. Cytotec can cause abortion, premature birth, birth defects and uterine rupture. Pitocin is given intravenously. It can be discontinued immediately. Cytotec is often inserted vaginally.
- Anesthesia: Errors can occur in any medical procedure that requires the use of anesthesia. Pregnancy heightens the risk. Errors in obstetrical anesthesia can include improper intubation, excessive sedation and/or improper placement of a spinal or epidural. These anesthesia errors can result in oxygen deprivation, and/or hypotension, which can result in decreased perfusion to the mother and/or baby.
